My Visit to John Wayland's House, May of '98
 
    In May of '98 I traveled to Portland for a family visit. John Wayland graciously invited me to his home in east Portland to see his EVs. I had a great time, saw many cool EVs and learned a lot in process. Rich Rudman was visiting that day along with his father so we all went out for breakfast. Rich kind of talks like he writes in his emails and John loves to tell stories like his emails, so it was an interesting breakfast. After breakfast I got a ride on Pee Wee the electric scooter and I got to drive the Heavy Metal garden tractor with the great stereo. Click on the pictures below for a larger image.

    John asked Rich to finish mowing his lawn so we could go to breakfast. Of course the lawn mower is electric.

    John is riding PeeWee the electric scooter in front of his house. I think John's neighbors are used to him by now.

    Rich also got to try the electric scooter.

    There I am driving the Heavy Metal garden tractor. Rich is hooking up a rope so we could pull his pickup with the tractor. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures because I was driving.

    After breakfast John was showing off the Red Beastie, his electric Toyota pickup truck, to crowd in front of the restaurant.

    There's yours truly riding PeeWee in the restaurant parking lot.

    Rich's father got a chance to try the electric scooter too.

    This is what it looks like under the hood of the Red Beastie. I hope my Toyota truck looks half as good as this.
